A holidaymaker from Benoni has died after a water tank caused a structural collapse at an Illovo Beach residence in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
“Reports from the scene indicate a water tank on the roof of an outside toilet filled after Tuesday’s heavy rain. As the weight increased, it caused the structure to collapse,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.
The man was crushed under the water tank, South Coast Sun reported.
“Tragically he died at the scene due to the extensive injuries he sustained,” said Botha.
This after one person sustained serious injuries following a structural collapse at News Café in Woodmead, near Midrand in Gauteng on Wednesday.
South African radio and television personality, Jeremy Mansfield took to Facebook to explain a less-than-ordinary business meeting.
“Who knew business meetings could be so dangerous. The ceiling just collapsed at News Café Woodmead. Luckily only my foot was cut and my back is sore from diving to the floor, but the guy next to me seems injured quite badly,” said Mansfield.
General manager of Newscafe, Alex Ling said the restaurant is undergoing renovations and that there are builders who are working around the restaurant.
She said there were no builders in the roof at the time of the collapse and said that the only injured person was the designer of the renovations who was under the roof when it collapsed.
