The restaurant is undergoing renovations and that there are builders who are working around the restaurant.

One person has sustained serious injuries after a structural collapse at News Café in Woodmead, near Midrand in Gauteng on Wednesday.

South African radio and television personality, Jeremy Mansfield took to Facebook explaining a less-than-ordinary business meeting.

“Who knew business meetings could be so dangerous. The ceiling just collapsed at News Café Woodmead. Luckily only my foot was cut and my back is sore from diving to the floor, but the guy next to me seems injured quite badly,” said Mansfield.

General manager of Newscafe, Alex Ling said told the Sandton Chronicle the restaurant is undergoing renovations and that there are builders who are working around the restaurant.

She said there were no builders in the roof at the time of the collapse and said that the only injured person was the designer of the renovations who was under the roof when it collapsed.

Ling said no guests were injured and the area has been cordoned off.

Emer-G-Med responded to the scene and transported the seriously injured designer to a nearby trauma centre under Advanced Life Support.
