A 39-year-old woman is expected to appear in court after she was arrested yesterday for alleged drug possession at George Airport, in the Western Cape.

Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said airport security spotted a suspicious-looking package in the woman’s bag while she was checking in, George Herald reported.

The police’s Task Team and the Outeniqua K9 Dog unit were alerted and the woman’s luggage was searched. 3 100 mandrax tablets valued at R190 000 were found her luggage.

The suspect is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

In a separate incident, a Tanzanian man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after he was found with drugs valued at R8 million.

He was arrested shortly after arriving in South Africa from Dar Es Salaam last month.

South African Revenue Services spokesperson Sandile Memela said the suspect was carrying two pieces of luggage and an inspection “unveiled seven transparent bags containing a crystal substance that turned out to be Ephedrine, weighing 26kg.
