Castle Gate Food Market attracts people from all over Pta

“We are expecting some friends of ours, they will probably be here around 07:00. So this is a really nice setup to catch up with old buddies and have a really nice conversation.”

Food lovers braced for a cloudy Friday evening to attend the annual Food Market at Castle Gate shopping centre in the east of Pretoria.

The market offers a variety of items such as home-made jewellery and wine to, of course, food.

Jersey Molefe said she came because of the kind of food the place offered.

“I love the scenery, we meet lots of great people with a great sense of humour,” said Molefe.

Karabo Moema told Rekord for her allure was meeting people and making acquaintances.

“I am a talkative person, so I love making conversations because it gives one an opportunity to learn about other things one wasn’t aware of. I am an entrepreneur as well, so networking is very important to me,” Moema added.

According to one patriot, Andrea Barnard the market sells nice stuff, that one shouldn’t miss out on as it only comes once a year.

Barnard said the market was a way of bonding with friends and family on a chilled Friday, knowing that kids are not going to school the following day.

“We are expecting some friends of ours, they will probably be here around 19:00. So this is a really nice setup to catch up with old buddies and have a really nice conversation.”

According to Barnard, the food market is normally held annually around this time, and it attracts people in and around Pretoria east.

A seller at the market, Trevor Ndlovu, who came all the way from Mamelodi, said the market has a huge clientele, adding that he never missed the opportunity to come sell.

“This market is different from others because people who come here support our business and it’s always packed,” Ndlovu added.
