SPAR and Jacaranda FM aim to raise R300 000 with annual carol event

“Last year we had fans from Canada, India, and Central Africa join us, this year we’re hoping that South Africans spread around the world will join Mzansi’s best as we use music to connect for a greater cause.”

A digital concert is to be held to spread Christmas cheer to assist 2 500 children from 11 children’s homes across South Africa.

The digital concert will be held for free and 11 local artists and groups have been lined up for the December 2 gig.

This is the second year SPAR Carols by Candlelight will be presented online by Jacaranda FM.

Jacaranda FM will stream the event across Mzansi, featuring some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians.

Jacaranda FM managing director, Deirdre King, said: “Last year SPAR Carols by Candlelight had to be innovated to ensure our loyal fan base had their annual dose of local festive cheer.

“The digital event was so successful, that we’ve kept the live-stream format to reach as many fans and donors as possible.

“Every year our fantastic artists return for this event, and this year we’re thrilled to welcome J Something and Kelly Khumalo to the ‘Carols Family’. It’s all about what we can do together and for each other.”

The SPAR Carols by Candlelight raised over R300 000 in 2020, surpassing the R250 000 goal set. About 250 000 viewers from across the world tuned in.

This year SPAR, Good Morning Angels team and Jacaranda FM aim to raise R300 000 and will use the funds raised through digital donations to buy toys for 2 500 children from 11 homes.

The beneficiaries are:

– SOS Children’s Village – Rustenburg, North West

– SOS Children’s Village – Nelspruit, Mpumalanga

– SOS Children’s Village – Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal

– SOS Children’s Village – Sekhukhune social centre, Limpopo

– SOS Children’s Village – Cape Town, Western Cape

– Child Welfare Tshwane, Gauteng

– Child Welfare Midrand, Gauteng

– Abraham Kriel Kinderhuis, Gauteng

– Look Forward Orphanage, Gauteng

– Juno Aurora Home, Gauteng

This year’s artist line-up will include 942s – Mzansi’s youngest pop-rock band discovered by Jacaranda FM.

They will kick-off the evening with family-friendly entertainment specifically geared towards getting the little ones excited for the mega line-up to come.

Other artists will include:

– Tarryn Lamb

– Swing City

– Elandré

– Refentse

– Jo Black

– Elvis Blue

– J Something

– Zolani

– Kelly Khumalo

– Charlize Berg

– Mzansi Youth Choir

SPAR inland advertising and promotions manager Pieter van Vuuren said supermarket chain and Jacaranda FM were this year asking fans to express their goodwill and donate towards the cause.

All funds raised would ensure that the Good Morning Angels team could gift vulnerable children across South Africa new toys of their own.

“To know that our event captures the spirit of giving and helps vulnerable children share in the joy that the festive season brings, is incredibly touching.

“Last year we had fans from Canada, India, and Central Africa join us, this year we’re hoping that South Africans spread around the world will join Mzansi’s best as we use music to connect for a greater cause,” Van Vuuren said.
