Jakkie Louw’s latest song leaves Africa smiling

"Our country is going through a hectic time, and now is the time to make Africa smile again."

South African musician Jakkie Louw recently released a new single “When Africa Smiles” just in time to celebrate Heritage Day on a high note.

This single has just been released as part of his brand new album, Die Jakkie Louw Band.

“The video was filmed with the original band that worked with me on the album. My violinist Johan Scheppel and I flew to Cape Town and the most beautiful sunny day awaited us. The video was filmed in the harbour with Table Mountain as our backdrop,” he said.

With this music video, Louw wants to show how beautiful our country and its people are.

“I want everyone in South Africa – and those who are no longer here – to realise this.”

“When Africa Smiles” was recorded with Sima Mashazi and Hiram Koopman in three languages (Afrikaans, English and Zulu) and is about the people of Africa.

“We are considered to be one of the friendliest nations in the world and I think we just have to remind ourselves of that sometimes.

“The people of our country are good, friendly and honest people who want only the best for our country and our descendants. If you and someone from another culture can share a smile today, we are on the right track,” Louw said.

“When Africa Smiles” was written by Louw and Koopman, a well-known musician, saxophone player and a good friend of Louw.

Jakkie Louw and band recently released a new single, When Africa Smiles.

Mashazi is a singer and songwriter and caught the eye with her performance as the younger Miriam Makeba in the musical Mama Africa, a 2019 joint project between the University of the Western Cape and the University of Missouri.

For Louw, “When Africa Smiles” is a story that lives in every person.

“I’m excited about this song because I hope it will bring people together.”

One of his biggest hits “Drie Pikkewyne” which had listeners on their feet 15 years ago, will have the same effect on fans when they listen to “When Africa Smiles”.
