2 000 enjoy east Christmas market in state-of-the-art garden

Covid-19 regulations were observed at the event held in the east of Pretoria.

More than 2 000 people attended the Christmas Market on Saturday, at the Mooikrans Venue and Garden in Pretoria east. To ensure Covid-19 regulations were followed, organisers only allowed 500 people wearing masks into the venue at a time, sanitising and screening attendees. The market was aimed at among others, supporting struggling local small businesses during the current tough economic conditions. “The whole aim of today’s event is to encourage people to buy local products and as a result, all vendors in this event are Pretoria-based,” Mooikrans Venue and Garden manager Maryke Ludick said. The event, planned to cater to the entire family, saw people having a first-hand experience of dining in a beautiful natural environment and a unique outdoor shopping experience in a well-designed garden. Held under the Christmas theme, families had the opportunity to buy locally produced goods, including various products suitable for Christmas gifts, clothes, shoes as well as distinctive food, coffee and wine, while treated to live music performances. The event did not only attract locals but also patrons from Johannesburg as well. “We drove up to Pretoria for the market day. I am glad we did because it is such a beautiful market,” Johannesburg resident Ashton Steenekamp said. “There were stunning and beautiful South African-made products, which is awesome to see, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic period.” Others queued patiently for their turn to enter the venue as others left to ensure that a required number of people inside the venue was maintained in order for social distancing rule to be adhered to.
