North vocalist charts unique path

The multi-talented 23-year-old not only composes and sings but also plays the trombone.

Atlegang Allah Sello, popularly known as Sky Blue Saaliq, fell in love with music as a nine-year-old.

The vocalist from Soshanguve block R sings about love, family feuds, hope and hustling.

“I write and sing about life’s issues that my friends and I come across,” he said.

The multi-talented 23-year-old not only composes and sings but also plays the trombone.

Unlike many artists who focus on a single genre, his music is a mixture of urban Afro-soul with a bit of pop… also modern with a hint of African indigenous music.

“Due to some influences of modern artists like Cassper Nyovest, I do hip-hop and amapiano, but when I compose a complete body of work, I stick to one genre,” he said.

Sello released a hip-hop single that was downloaded over 20 000 times in 2019, earning him an invitation to community radio station tours.

Before Isidingo, his latest album, he released Gold 84th, an album dedicated to his grandmother for turning 84 years old.

Sello said he sends messages of love and motivation to young hustlers through his music.

“ I wrote Lindela, which means wait, to give hope and encourage young people working hard to better themselves to be patient.

“I am registered with Unisa for a degree in law (LLB),” Sello said.
