COMPETITION: Win tickets to the Capital Craft Beer Festival

The Belgian Beer Company will be taking part in the festival this year and spoke to Rekord on what you can expect.

The Capital Craft Beer Festival will be taking place in Pretoria at Capital Craft in Menlo Park for the seventh year in a row on 15 June. Loads can be expected this year, and Rekord spoke to The Belgian Beer Company that will be showcasing three unique and delicious beers for all tastes.

The Belgian Beer Company originates in Britain and stocks over 600 different beers. They spoke to Rekord to express their excitement at attending the Capital Craft Beer Festival in June.

“The South African market is always ready to try something new and be slightly experimental – South Africans are also very honest and know what they like. Interest varies depending on the market segment you are working with. We have seen particular interest in our fruit beers, specifically Cherry,” they said about what they have learnt from the SA market.

The beer brewers will be part of the festival for the seventh consecutive year and look forward to once again see what Pretorians think of what they’ll taste.

“Being part of the festivities and showing Pretoria what the Belgian Beer Company has to offer, is probably what we’re most excited for. Let’s drink beer and create some ‘gees’.”

This year, The Belgian Beer Company is planning on showcasing three different beers.

“Liefmans Fruitesse will be on tap. It’s a unique blend of beer and berries, this artful combination is both fresh and tasty. Lightly sparkling with a soft, foamy head and a pleasant, sweet taste and low bitterness this is a great lunchtime beer.

“Our second is La Chouffe on tap. Chouffe, the beer of the dwarfs brewed in the Valley of the Fairies. La Chouffe leaves citrus notes on the palate, followed by a refreshing, pleasantly spicy note, giving it a lovely lightness. With its 8 percent alcohol content and slightly hoppy taste, this golden beer has won over beer lovers from all over the world down the years. Its unique taste has won various awards.

“Duvel takes 90 days of brewing. It’s a natural beer with a subtle bitterness, a refined aroma and a distinct hop character. The unique brewing process, which lasts around 90 days, guarantees a pure style, a delicate sparkle and a pleasant alcohol-sweet taste,” the company said.

“After pure spring water, the main component of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malting plant, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and consequently also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel gets its typical bitterness by adding various aromatic Slovenian and Czech hop varieties. We only use exclusive hops that are recognised for their consistent, excellent quality,” they explain.

Thanks to its surprisingly high alcohol volume (8.5%), its enormous head, fine sparkle and silky mouthfeel, Duvel clearly distinguishes itself from other Belgian beers, and according to The Belgian Beer Company, is not one to be missed.
