Not keen to visit an antique market when the weather is too hot, too cold or rainy, well, head indoors to the climatised comfort of Brooklyn Square where the second Vintage Table Top Market will be held on Worker’s Day, Wednesday, 1 May from 08:00 to 16:00.
Known to many in Pretoria as the old Melrose House Museum Market, which was a fixture for more than 30 years on the beautiful grounds of the Melrose House Museum, the open-air market was always at the mercy of the weather and had security issues. Its two fairs, held on 1 May and 16 December, were often cancelled due to the unpredictable cold or rainy weather.
Since moving to the second parking level of Brooklyn Square in December 2018 to great acclaim, the Vintage Market will once again attract visitors and collectors from all over Pretoria and surrounding areas. With its convenient facilities, restaurants and secure parking, this is the ideal way to spend the holiday.
The dealers at this market range from top experts in silver, porcelain, stamps and coins to the more quirky suppliers of old toys, books and bric-a-brac. Spend the day browsing the stalls that will take you back to the past when things were made to last and craftsmanship was an art form. Chat to the dealers whose knowledge of antiques and collectables is so valuable and “go green” by investing in something that has value and can be passed on to future generations.
The Tshwane SPCA is the Vintage Fair’s charity partner and they will be there representing the hundreds of voiceless animals in need. Thanks to support from the public they raised almost R50 000 at the December 2018 Vintage Fair and they look forward to engaging with the public again this year.
