VIDEO: Street singer gets shot at fame in Pretoria

Be prepared to be blown away by this young man's voice.

A 21-year-old man from George has had his life turned upside down after a video of him singing and playing his guitar went viral on social media.

Naelon Andrews is now considered to be the next big thing in the music industry, with a hair-raising voice like no other, this young singer can now boast a record deal with Universal Records.

“It’s strange, when I returned home, I was suddenly recognisable in the street. People are asking me to sing at their weddings, parties, and I’ve even had a request to go sing in New Zealand and Australia,” Andrews told Rekord.

His story starts in his home town of George as he walked and sang as he passed an office building on Tuesday 26 March to visit a friend.

The staff in the building stopped him and “invited me inside to sing for them, and that is when the video was filmed and published on Facebook”.

By Wednesday the video had been viewed 600 000 times, the following day Pretoria based radio station GrootFM along with Universal Records flew Andrews to OR International Airport for a meeting and an opportunity to sing live on air.

Ruben Delmage asked Andrews about his talent, his experience thus far, how he was noticed, his trip to Pretoria and flying for the first time.

Andrews had barely finished singing his third song when Bino Boshoff, head of Afrikaans music at Universal Records entered the studio record, contract in hand.

“I am very excited to start that part of my life. I honestly never thought that this would happen, or I would get this kind of attention,” Andrews said.

In two weeks, Andrews will return to Pretoria to start his career in the music industry.

He told Rekord that he’s not sure yet if he would move to the city, but is utterly excited for what the future holds for him.
