COMPETITION: Melrose House Vintage and SPCA Fair has a new home, win a Xmas jug

Did you know the Melrose House Vintage and SPCA Fair has a new home? Be sure to get to the new fair at Brooklyn Square and enter the competition to win a beautiful jug.

After 25 years, the famous Melrose House Vintage and SPCA Fair is moving to a brand new venue. Although the Antique Fair held twice a year in the gardens of the iconic museum for over twenty years was loved and supported by people from far and wide, we had to move with the times and listen to the public and to our traders who were concerned about security issues and the unpredictability of the weather.

With safety and security a priority and in the interests of growing the fair and updating it with more features that the public can enjoy, The Collector Antiques Fair is taking on a completely new look and feel on the second parking level of the trendy Brooklyn Square on the public holiday, Monday 17 December 2018 from 08:00 to 16:00.

Antique expert Clyde Terry and event organiser Yolanda Gibbon have created a completely new look and feel to create a multi-sensory experience for visitors for that day. Imagine the famous Portobello market in London or the Mercado de Clara in Lisbon – now imagine Pretoria hosting an even bigger and better version.

Antique dealers and vendors from all over South Africa will showcase their best wares and set up visually stunning stands that will transport you to another world – that of beautifully crafted and highly collectable goods. Think of rows of stands where you can:

· Browse through a maze of stalls offering the widest range of antiques, collectables and decorative arts ahead of the Xmas rush.

· Pick out a unique vintage piece and be transported back to the glamour days of the 20s, 30s through to the 60s and 70s;

· Find that perfect gift in silver – from heirloom cutlery sets to intricately worked candlesticks and collectables;

· Shop for vintage or costume jewellery that is like nothing you can get today – an Art Deco set of earrings, a Victorian diamond and ruby ring or some funky 70’s hippy beads;

· Start a collection of porcelain – invest in a Royal Albert dinner set for that Xmas dinner or treat your loved one to a Royal Doulton figurine or a beautiful Moorcroft vase;

· Invest in a first edition book, some highly collectable stamps or that rare coin that will give you a massive return on investment in the future;

· Introduce your kids to the beauty and craftsmanship of old toys that were not made of plastic. Metal dinky toys, train sets for the boys and how about porcelain dolls in beautiful period dresses or lovable original teddy bear.

SPCA to benefit from fair:

During the festive season, spare a thought for all those animals that get left behind or abandoned over this period. The Collector Antiques Fair (formerly the Melrose House Antique Fair) will once again have as its preferred charity, the Tshwane SPCA.

“The festive season, whilst a season of jollity for most people, is often the worst time for animals and pets who are often abandoned over this period,” says SPCA Fundraiser Michelle Stevens.

“We appreciate the support we have had from the Vintage Fair with whom we have been involved for the past few years, raising over R30 000 in donations from visitors to the Fair to help hundreds of voiceless animals in need. We will have a stand at the Fair and invite you all to come and chat to us and make your donation.”

Don’t miss the launch of this new and exciting Antique & Vintage Fair in the safe and secure Brooklyn Square, with its convenient banking facilities, secure parking and trendy shops and restaurants.

Well known foodie and collector Willie Straus will be at the fair to promote and do signings of his cookbook ‘Daar is ‘n engel in my kiskas’. We look forward to welcoming you to the new home of the Melrose House antique market – on the second level of Brooklyn Square.
