Local band hits right notes with some folk
The pair then started a band, Flint, Meet Spark, a Pretoria-based acoustic-folk duo.
Pretoria-based musicians Adelle Nqeto and Josh Pretorius are bringing back folk music with a twist of British-inspired sounds.
The folk duo’s journey began in 2012, when Tshwane-born Nqeto and Pretorius met through mutual friends.
They decided to join forces to create a British-African-acoustic-folk centrepiece around which to create their collective sound and the result was Flint, Meet Spark.

The duo enjoyed local success as an acoustic, folk partnership between 2012 and 2014, which included a trip to Zambia with Greenpop on their Festival of Action.
They also played at some of South Africa’s biggest music festivals such as Rocking the Daisies and OppiKoppi, as well as several stints at Park Acoustics.

In 2014, Jeremy Loops featured Nqeto on his album Trading Change on the track “Lonesome and Blue”.
The duo joined Loops and several other leading South African folk artists at Cool as Folk, a one-night-only folk-orientated evening in Cape Town.

With a continuously growing collection of songs, in 2015 Nqeto decided to take a leap of faith by embarking on a solo career, taking her set of catchy, hopeful songs to South African festivals and venues.
In October 2016 she released her debut single, Make Something Beautiful – a pop-infused melancholic tune about continued hope despite the somewhat dire state of the human condition. Her debut album, Lights,was released in March 2017.

As a pastime, Adelle dabbles in the art of people-watching, daydreams about time travel – and also regular travel – and eats ice cream.
