COMPETITION: Win tickets to see Corlea Botha on stage

Do you want to see Corlea Botha live on stage? Enter this competition and win one night's stay at the Carousel as well.

Songstress Corlea Botha is set to shine on stage at the Cheyenne Saloon at The Carousel this month. The Delmas-born jazz singer will treat fans to a diverse repertoire of intimate songs on 27 January at 21:00.

Botha, who performed in her first concert at the tender age of 5, has enjoyed a colourful music career since she took part in the national Reach for the Stars singing competition in 1996 where she was the youngest participant and won the 5-to 8-year-old category.

By 1997, she had released her first album My First, wowing South Africans with her vocal capacity belting out songs such as Celine Dion’s Think Twice. In 2000, Botha took part in the Reach for the Stars national singing and instrumental competition, which had more than 7 500 entrants.

She not only won the jazz/R&B and lounge categories, but also walked away as the overall winner with her rendition of Sam Harris’ Somewhere over the Rainbow. She was only 12 at the time.

In 2001, she was named one of the “Voices of the New Generation” who took their place on stage with South African greats such as Miriam Makeba, Dolly Rathebe, Thandi Claasen, Abigail Kubeka and Mara Louw at the Surf Miriam Makeba Tribute to Dolly Rathebe concerts. Three years later, Botha released her long-awaited gospel album, Wie is ’n God soos U.

In 2005 she joined Hugh Masekela’s record company, Chissa Entertainment with the likes of Zwai Bala, Sibongile Khumalo and Mr. Masekela himself in the same stable. An Afro-jazz album, Shades of the Rainbow, was released in 2006, in which Botha sang in English and five other African languages.

Over the years, she had performed at major music festivals and shows such as Skouspel, KKNK, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and the Sun City Meloding Jazz festival with artists such as Zama Jobe, Gloria Bosman, Khumalo, and international artist, Ann Hampton Callaway.

She has also performed abroad in countries like Japan and has released several albums, as well as duets with the likes of Steve Hofmeyr, Brandon October, Nicholis Louw, Karen Zoid and Jannie Moolman.

Her show promises superlative entertainment. Tickets are R80 per person at Computicket.
