Mabopane author pens book on African spirituality

The deviant behaviour of our leaders and the black community as a whole is where we lost our African spirit, Maubane writes.

Local author Billy Maubane of Mabopane has released a book Deviant – Where we lost our African Spirit.

Maubane delves into difficult subjects, among them the deviant behaviour our country’s leaders.

“How do we allow our culture and religion to be mixed or dismissed by other human beings?” asked Maubane.

“The deviant behaviour of our leaders and the black community as a whole is where we lost our African spirit.”

Maubane said the poverty, crime and unemployment ravaging the black community since 1994 was perpetuated by leaders who ought to know the suffering of the black majority better.

“They have shifted the boundary lines of our forefathers by ignoring or not implementing the mandate of the black majority which is written in the Freedom Charter,” he said.

He also explored the why blacks denigrated themselves by seeking the approval of whites to say what they believed.

“How do we allow our culture and religion to be mixed or dismissed by other human beings? Why do we insult our good values like ubuntu, selflessness or kindness which are embedded in our culture and belief system?

“Why do we adopt greedy , self-centred systems of being politically correct at the demise of the revolution?” said Maubane.

“To my God, thank you God for your grace. I believe I am using all the talents and the gifts you gave me, to your satisfaction. Thank you for giving me this chance of writing this book at my age while many of my friends and peers are no longer with us. May their souls rest in peace. Thank you, Lord because I am lucky to see my grandchildren. That is your plan Lord,” Maubane said.
