NU METRO: What’s new at the movies?

A suspenseful drama, an inspiring true story about firefighters and a sci-fi thriller are the new movies starting to show at Nu Metro cinemas in Pretoria this week. And, the time has come for the final *Girls’ Night Out ladies-only screening for 2017 on Thursday, 9 November.

Nothing is harder to track than the truth in this film directed by Taylor Sheridan (the acclaimed writer of Sicario), and starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. A rookie FBI agent teams up with a local game tracker with deep community ties and a haunted past to investigate the mysterious murder of a local girl on a remote Native American reservation. If it’s quality film-making, drama and suspenseful mystery that you’re after, then Wind River is the movie for you.

This remake of the original horror/thriller starring Julia Roberts from the 1990s follows five medical students obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life. They embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience, giving them a first-hand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing on the other side.

It’s not what stands in front of you… It’s about who stands beside you. Only the Brave is a drama inspired by the true story following the elite crew of men who battled a wildfire in Prescott, Arizona in June 2013, which claimed the lives of 19 of their members. The film is based on No Exit (the GQ article) by Sean Flynn and features special appearances by Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Connelly.

By the end of the journey, they’ll redefine making the holidays special for all and reignite their own maternal relationships. Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Cheryl Hines, Peter Gallagher, Justin Hartley, Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon.

*Nu Metro’s special ladies-only pre-release screening event, Girls’ Night Out, is making its final bow for the year at Nu Metro Menlyn Park and the VIP complex at Parkview Centre in Pretoria (along with other Nu Metro cinemas nationwide) on Thursday, 9 November. A Bad Mom’s Christmas, the hilarious sequel to Bad Moms, will be screened on the night ahead of its general release in December. Ladies attending Girls’ Night Out will be treated to drinks, cocktail snacks, goodie bags and other surprises.
