Pta North artist lives to entertain

“When I hear Selaelo Selota’s music my heart skips a beat.”

Despite twice failing to crack it in the M-Net Idols, upcoming musician Magatsela More has refused to give up on his talent.

Magatsela of Pretoria North believes he possesses God’s given talent and was born to entertain as an artist.

The artist told Rekord this week that despite two failed attempts at Idols, his career has been blossoming slowly.

He has since performed at several shopping malls in Pretoria Central.

“The judges at Idols may have held a different view on my music but it is their opinion, they are entitled to their own opinion. What I like is that I have been getting positive feedback from the people,” said Magatsela.

He said as long as people continued to love music, he would continue to sing.

He said he had written a number of songs for his planned album.

“Anywhere that I sit, take out my guitar and start playing people stop in large numbers and start appreciating my talents. Some of them start giving me money without me asking,” he said.

The Afro-jazz artist said he started developing the love for music when he was still young.

“I was inspired by many artists such as Sello Galane, Selaelo Selota and Hugh Masekela,” he said.

Most of his songs are in Sepedi language.

“I write songs based on my personal experiences of the challenges our country and people are facing,” he said.

“The guitar is like a toy to me. I can play any song by ear. I love music and can’t wait to perform at a major music festival one day.

“I like Selaelo Selota. When I listen to his music, my heart skips because of his melodies. When he plays guitar, I feel like screaming.

“My dream is to play alongside him and show him my talent.”
