Local fitness body builder shines in US
Faerie Glen body builder Anna Wood finished 2nd in the world fitness competition in USA.
Local fitness body builder Anna Wood took second place in the World Fitness Federation Universe competition in the United States of America two weeks ago.
The competition which featured over 30 participants from different countries, took place on 11 June in Orlando, Florida.
Wood (35) from Faerie Glen, competed in the Miss Fitness Bikini – sports models category and finished in second place.
“I have been a fitness body builder for about six years but I took a break for about four years before I came back this year,” she said.
“My return did bear fruits as I managed to qualify for the fitness competition in USA.”
Wood, who came back from the States on Monday, said it was an honour to represent her country.
“It was my first time in the states and I loved every minute of it. Representing South Africa was a huge achievement for me and proudest moment of my life,” she said.
“The competition was extremely tough, I competed with woman from different parts of the world and some of them where intimidating.”
She said finishing second was the cherry on the top for her because she was not even sure if her trip to compete in the US would be possible.
“My husband raised money for me to go to the US to my surprise. The USN also helped me financially to make my trip possible and I am grateful for that,” she said.
Wood runs her own business called GO-Active Outdoor Fitness Boot Camp which is based in the east of Pretoria.
In the future, she would like to have her own TV channel dedicated to bodybuilding.
“I plan on having my own show that would motivate and inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“I am now taking a break and I would not be taking part in more competitions this year.”
