Thousands take part in Race of Hope

The Race of Hope had a great turnout at the Grove Mall on Saturday morning.

The seventh annual Race of Hope took place at the Grove Mall on Saturday morning.

The race was sponsored by the mall, in partnership with Pick n Pay and Rekord newspaper.

The Grove Mall’s marketing director Christel Jones said over 3 000 participants took part in the race, which included distances of 5km, 10km and 21km.

“It was an awesome run for us. It was one of our warm-up races ahead of the 1 600km run to Cape Town in June,” said Jason Knoetze, a participant.

Vincent Kipchirchir, from Kenya, won the men’s 21km race and Marlise Retief was the winner in the women’s division.

Moses Kurgat won the men’s 10km race and Catherine Skosana was the women’s winner in the same category.
