A sizziling Christianr rapper

Passionate rapper finds salvation through music.

Many young people have been labelled as lost and misguided, but Rapper Sizwe Tumelo Sibande (Siz), from Montana has found salvation through music.

Sibande was not always a law-abiding citizen.

“I was a drug addict for about seven years since 2007 and a drug dealer for about 2 years,” he said this week.

“Generally I was a criminal, a rebel and a completely wicked individual who wanted nothing to do with God.”

Sibande started rapping late in his primary school years and continued throughout high school.

“I fell in love with hip-hop music at a very young age and was amused by the art form of rhyming while communicating a message to the listener.”

He said he was influenced by his brother and uncle at home.

“They played rap music most of the time and my brother was very passionate about it”.

He went through a period of communicating to his listeners via aggressive HIP HOP music — which he described as “nothing but the work of the devil that did nothing but promote sin and wickedness”.

But then Sibande had a “supernatural encounter with God” and accepted Jesus Christ to be his Saviour.

He changed his genre of music to Christian/Gospel rap which seeks to communicate the word of God.

Sibande said that he did not have role models.

“I aim to do something that was never done before, to leave a dream that would carry on forever, even after I die.”

He said his favourite song was Unforgettable Moment by Siz (his rap name) and Phreyz.

Sibande is currently doing a degree in psychological counselling. He plans to be a psychologist and also looks to opening up a restaurant with his brother in the near future.

He said the rap game was not sustainable at this point and additional work was needed for survival.

Sibande urged other aspiring artists to dream big.

“Have a dream that is bigger than you, a dream so big that when your time here on earth is up, your dream will live on forever.”
