Thousands walk at annual Medihelp Sunrise Monster

Thousands took part in the Medihelp Sunrise Monster walk

More than 8 000 athletes took part in the 39th annual Medihelp Sunrise Monster on Saturday morning.

The event was held at Harlequins Club and started at 06:00.

Participants took part in the 32km, 10km and 5km fun-run routes of which all of them meander through the Groenkloof nature reserve, up and down the hills of Monument Park.

Medihelp principal officer, Heyn van Rooyen said the run has become a must-do race for many professional athletes looking for a challenge.

The race is famous for being the biggest 10km road race in Gauteng North and as one of the best conditioning races for the Comrades marathon.

“Even though the race is renowned for its steep climbs and down hills, it can be conquered if you train for it in advance with your club,” said Van Rooyen.

He concluded that Medihelp Sunrise Monster focuses on healthy habits, preventive care and sharing memories with loved ones.
