Crawford College pushes drive for CANSA

Crawford College sets new bar in raising money for CANSA

Crawford College pupils and teachers met at Crawford College‘s school grounds on Friday to raise money for Cansa and those affected by cancer.

Pupils and teachers had a spray-a-thon where some of the pupils had their hair sprayed. Others bravely opted to shave their heads all in aid of raising money for cancer.

Smiles, sprays and coloured hair were the common factor for the day, as parents supported their children in their quest to raise more money this year than they did last year.

An outstanding R63 850,54 was raised this year and co-organisor of the moneyraiser Beverley Picota said this year’s moneyraiser beat last year’s by R9 000 which amounted to R54 000.

Before the money was counted, Picota who was busy cutting some of the willing students’ hair, said she strongly thought they (Crawford College) would beat last year’s R54 000 target.

“I think we did it this year,” she said confidently.

Picota said this year’s moneyraising for Cansa campaign had a few interesting initiatives with it. She said teachers just recently volunteered to being auctioned off to the pupils to raise more money.

Picota said this was a huge success as about 10 teachers volunteered and some of them were bid for close to R6 000.

A whopping R30 000 was raised from the auction and the moneyraising was still to continue. This R30 000 excluded Fridays outstanding display of colour at the Crawford College field.

Teacher and co-organiser Colleen Franken who was the top teacher to be bid for at the teacher action said she was excited at the success of this tradition, which stemmed back about 10 years.

She said all the teachers were the ones selected to have their hair sprayed by the pupils the next coming week.

Pupils enjoyed every second of uniquely branding their hair in their own selected colours.

The Crawford pre-primary school pupils, however, remained not only colourful but the loudest as they ran, and enjoyed what seemed like a day filled with creative but meaningful madness.
