Centurion girl reaching new heights in modelling

A young aspiring model from Centurion is chasing her dreams to become a top model. She tells of her journey and what lies ahead.

Carmia Beetge (17) from Centurion is making her mark in the local and international modelling industry. She has landed an opportunity to appear before talent scouts and international modelling agencies at the applause rising talent showcase (Arts) convention. The event takes place in Orlando, Florida, from 24 July to 2 August.

The event is regarded as a platform which can progress aspiring artists in South Africa into the international entertainment industry.

Beetge’s journey started in 2015 when she was scouted by Jeff Verlinden of Just You Model and Artist Management at the Mr and Miss Jacaranda pageant held at The Mall@Reds.

“I knew I had an interest in the industry after initially being scouted at the Centurion Mall. But after a few coaching classes, I knew I could make a future out of this. When I won the 1st princess title in the Mr and Miss SA Youth pageant I knew for sure this was what I wanted to do,” explains Beetge.

Beetge has been working tirelessly with Just You agency to improve her dancing and modelling skills. The dance crew has also been selected to attend the Dance Star world championships in Croatia in 2016.

With her participation at the Arts convention Beetge will be auditioning in six categories including fashion runway, fashion runway theme, creative runway, photography, swimsuits and TV commercials.

Beetge’s ultimate goal was to sign up with an international agency for commercial modelling and hopefully spend time abroad.

“I would also like to change the perception people have of models and artists in general. The perception that the world of artists, and especially models, are flooded by shallow girls who have nothing better to offer than their looks. All of us are ambitious and have goals. Mine is to also get a tertiary education in animal care and welfare. I am a farm girl at heart,” Beetge said.

Her advice for other young aspiring models who would like to realise their dreams is: “Realise that God has given you your beauty and poise as a gift. Always use it to honour Him and always work hard and remain humble in everything you do. And if modelling is your passion, pursue your goal with everything you’ve got.”
