Hair removing methods

Consider the different methods of hair removal when preparing yourself for a beach holiday.

A lot of people struggle with unwelcome and unfortunate hair growth. Excessive hair growth can be a result of genetics, hormone medicines like steroids, higher levels of certain hormones in your body and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

But even if you do not have excessive hair growth, and you just want to look your best hair-free self over the holidays, consider these methods of getting rid of your bodily hair.

1. The good-old shaving method

Shaving is most people’s preferred method of getting rid of unwanted hair because it is cost effective, but it has a downside.

Shaving can cause ingrown hairs and it can also make the hair grow back stronger and thicker.

It is not at all recommended to use on the face of women.

2. Plucking

Plucking or tweezing can be fairly painful but it works best if you only have a few unwanted hairs you want to get rid of.

Plucking hair off larger areas of your body is not recommended because it will probably take you an immense amount of time to complete and it can also result in ingrown hairs.

3. Hair removal creams

Hair removal creams can be incredibly helpful, especially if your skin is a bit sensitive to shaving or waxing. But be sure to use hair removal creams that are area specific, for example, do not use hair removal cream made for pubic hair on your face.

Keeping the cream on your skin for too long can burn the skin, and if you have sensitive skin, try testing the lotion on a small part of your skin first.

4. Waxing

Waxing is generally recommended to do in a salon as it is very messy and if done the wrong way, can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort.

Be sure to do proper research on waxing, using it while using certain types of medications, can result in your skin being waxed off.

5. Threading

Threading is a traditional Indian method of hair removal that some salons offer. The professionals who do threading use strings they twist in a pattern and use to pull unwanted hair out.

6. Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal can be quite costly, but it is considered one of the longest-lasting methods available.

The laser beam or a light pulse works to destroy the hair bulb and can be used on many parts of the body where unwanted hair appears. Be sure you select a doctor or technician who is highly trained and knowledgeable.

7. Electrolysis

Electrolysis is done by a professional who places a tiny needle with an electric current in the hair follicle. There are two primary hair removal methods with electrolysis: galvanic and thermolytic.

Galvanic hair removal chemically destroys the hair follicle, while thermolytic removal uses heat to destroy the follicle.

8. Medications for unwanted hair

If all the above mentioned methods fail, ask your doctor for medically prescribed medications that inhibit hair growth.
