In the spirit of breaking the silence on the abuse of women and children, Nu Metro took the decision to adopt a more socially conscious tone for their Girls’ Night Out screenings in October.
A story of triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds, Dis ek, Anna, which recently scooped Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor at the Silwerskermfees, has been selected as the title for this month’s women-only, pre-release screening events – taking place at Nu Metro’s 19 cineplexes nationwide on Thursday, 15 October at 20:00 (and at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront on Thursday, 22 October at 20:00).
Dis ek, Anna is the latest critically acclaimed film from the director of Ayanda, Sara Blecher. It tells the heart wrenching story of Anna Bruwer and the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather over a period of eight years. The impressive local cast features Charlenè Brouwer, Marius Weyers, Nicola Hanekom, Mornè Visser and newcomer Izel Bezuidenhout together with Elize Cawood, Dawid Minnaar and Fezile Mpela.
Dis ek, Anna is based on two fictionalised, autobiographical, bestselling novels “Ek, Anna” and “Die Staat Teen Anna Bruwer” by Anchien Troskie, written under the pseudonym Elbie Lötter. The book was a massive success in South Africa, climbing the bestseller lists and selling in excess of 200 000 copies. The translated version of the book was well received by critics in Europe and sold well there too.
Please note that access to Girls’ Night Out-screenings at Nu Metro’s cinemas is open to women only. The film has an age restriction of 16 due to language and violence.
Apart from women being treated to the film, there are lots of extras to look forward to on the night. Various sponsors have come on board and ladies can expect goodie bags, discount vouchers, free samples, magazines and much more; each cineplex has its own dedicated sponsors, meaning giveaways will vary from site to site.
Dis ek, Anna releases at Nu Metro Menlyn Shopping Centre and Woodlands Boulevard cinema complexes nationally on Friday, 23 October 2015.
