Students treated to free movie screening

Students of POPUP center were treated to a free screening of Ayanda.

Students were recently treated to a free public screening of an unreleased movie, Ayanda, in Salvokop, courtesy of Indigenous Film Distribution.

“Ayanda is a coming-of-age story of a young girl whose father died eight years earlier,” director of the movie, Sara Blecher, said.

“Because of that, she does not know how to let go of anything and holds on to everything.”

Ayanda then sets out on a journey to make a success of her father’s garage, which is not making money.

“She is quite an entrepreneur. She is a creative person so she comes up with all these amazing solutions for how to make the garage not to go under,” Blecher said.

Blecher said after having seen the movie, the lesson that grabs the audience’s attention would be to take every opportunity that came knocking.

“There is always an opportunity to embitter yourself.”

The cast of Ayanda include funny man Thomas Gumede, Fhulu Moguvhani, and award-winning actors Kenneth Nkosi and Nthati Moshesh.

The students were treated to the preview study at POPUP (People Upliftment Programme), which offers courses in areas such as hospitality, business management and sewing.

OUTsurance sponsored 200 food parcels for daycare children and 250 hot dogs.

The company team also provided fun hair spray and a jumping castle for the children’s entertainment.
