Funny night at Barnyard

“My characters let their flaws hang out, oblivious to the fact that we can all see them."

Funny man Gino Fabbri, a talented comedian had his Completely Nuts show debut at the Barnyard Theatre recently. Fabbri portrayed different characters such as, Helmut Ramspoed, a self-proclaimed superhero of traffic, who takes his job just a little too seriously to be called mentally stable, a German scientist Walter Pilenkompf who separates emotions from facts, as he explains the role of science and mathematics in understanding women, a superficial Indian guy, a flamboyant outspoken gay individual and a few more sharing their unique tales of what they think life’s meaning is.

The theatre was filled with families in stitches over Fabbri’s impersonations, with him playing different, likable and funny characters throughout the evening keeping his anecdotes hilariously relevant. South African politicians, athletes, soccer players, musicians and even Michael Jackson were also in Fabbri’s list of jokes.

With a stellar closing of the show, he left the audience gasping for air in awe of his talent.

Eastern Cape born Fabbri, who has delighted corporate audiences around the country with his off-beat character-driven humour, dazzles with his drumming skills to take his audience on a musical journey named the evolution of drums, compiling pieces of different musical instrument to complete his show.

“My characters let their flaws hang out, oblivious to the fact that we can all see them. Audiences recognise their own shortcomings in these characters – and we are all secretly afraid our own insecurities are as clearly visible for the world to see.”

Describing the show as an ‘antidote to deep thinking’, Fabbri says: “Hiding behind the guise of these dysfunctional personas grants one an enormous amount of license.”
