Starbucks is heading to South Africa

South Africa's first Starbucks store is set to open soon.

South African coffee lovers can look forward to having their first sip of home brewed Starbucks by mid-2016.

The company will open its first store in Johannesburg through a deal with Taste Holdings, the same licencor which opened stores of the pizza giant, Domino’s, around South Africa.

Starbucks has reportedly said that the coffee that will be served in the Johannesburg store will be similar to the coffee that the company serves globally. It has added that it will, however, create “special reserves” for the location.

According to Kris Engskov, Starbucks president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the coffee market in South Africa is vibrant and growing fast.

“We want to be part of that growth, bringing the passion and energy of this remarkable country into the design of our first store and our first barista team.”

Starbucks was founded in Seattle in 1971 and has more 22,000 stores around the world.
