Musical on Marikana returns to Pretoria

Win tickets to Marikana - The Musical.

Marikana – The Musical is coming back to the State Theatre due to popular demand.

The six-time Naledi Awards winner is a stage adaptation of Aubrey Sekhabi’s We Are Going to kill Each Other Today.

The forty-cast member play led by renowned actor Meshack Mavuso, Aubrey Poo, Emma Mmekwa and Mpho “Mckenzie” Matome unleash a blow-by-blow account of the events that led to the loss of 44 lives at the hands of the police and the miners in August 2012.

Marikana – The Musical goes back to the villages and townships where the miners come from. It gives faces and names to the fallen brothers, sons, fathers and uncles who lost their lives during the massacre.

Marikana – The Musical has been a humbling experience for us. It has been a real roller-coaster of emotions for me, the creative team and the cast. We hope to continue using art to heal, mourn and most importantly, to teach tolerance,” Aubrey Sekhabi said.

The play came out tops at the 2014 Naledi Theatre Awards, winning six awards, including best production of a musical, best director, and best performance in a musical; among others.

Marikana – The Musical opens at the State Theatre on Friday 17 July and will run until Sunday 16 August.
