Win a limited edition artwork by Daniel Botha

Daniel Botha is a new up-and-coming artist from the east of Pretoria.

Daniel Botha is an up-and-coming artist from the east of Pretoria, who is making waves in the art world. Rekord spoke to the artist about his art, goals and future:

How would you describe your artwork?

My artworks are fun and colourful to simply look at, but at the same time challenge the viewer to uncover the symbolism behind the work.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

The human form and daily scenarios always draw my attention, giving me the opportunity to represent meaningfully what I see in the world around me.

How has your style developed?

I used to have a very realistic style where every detail mattered to me, but over a period of three years my style went from realistic to almost unrecognisable depictions of everyday life. I find the abstract world a much better place to express myself.

Where can people view your work?

My work can be seen at Chris Tugwell gallery, Brooklyn and at www.danieleugenebotha.co.za, or via twitter: @de_botha.

Are you currently exhibiting anywhere?

My first major one-man exhibition will be taking place in February 2016, where my art career will be launched. This will be followed by exhibitions in galleries all over South Africa.

Where do you see yourself and your artwork in ten years?

I see myself as a well-established artist, promoting other young, upcoming artists. My agent Kayson Naidoo is helping me attain my goals, in time I hope to assist others to accomplish their dreams.

Does Pretoria, as your hometown, influence you as artist?

It does in part, but through my travels to China, Spain and Indonesia my perspective of life and culture has expanded much more, beyond the mind of a younger Daniel.

What is your favourite part/memory of Pretoria?

It would be the time of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa, because the atmosphere of a nation standing together as one was all around.

Would you like to remain in Pretoria or see the world?

I see myself moving to Spain within the next few years to further develop as an artist, but I will always come back because there is no place like home.
