Win tickets to see ‘Hollywood in my Huis’ at Nu Metro

One lucky reader can win double tickets to see 'Hollywood in my Huis' at Nu Metro.

Hollywood in my Huis‘ is a new coming-of-age romantic comedy, tailor-made for the school holidays.

It is currently showing at Nu Metro Menlyn and Woodlands and is set against the backdrop of a 2004 matric dance.

Jana van Tonder is an ordinary teenage girl living in an impoverished railway neighbourhood with her dysfunctional parents. When she witnesses Charlize Theron’s iconic Oscar win, she’s inspired to transform her upcoming matric dance into her very own Hollywood red carpet affair.

The film stars Christia Visser, Edwin van der Walt, Leandie du Randt, Brandon Fourie, Nicola Hanekom, Louw Venter and Francois Jacobs, and was directed by Corne van Rooyen.

Rekord took some time out with Edwin van der Walt, who plays the role of Frikkie in the film.

You recently co-starred with Christia Visser in Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling. Did working together previously help in preparing for your new roles in Hollywood In My Huis?

We actually shot Hollywood in my Huis first, then we did Ballade after, but definitely. Working together previously will always be a asset to your new project as you know each other well and you gel together immediately.

Why did you choose acting over a career in rugby?

It became a gut choice. I really had to follow my gut on this big decision, which I now understand why I made that choice. And have you seen Duanne Vermeulen — one big guy to tackle. But I am doing what I love every day, when you choose acting it cant be about the money but the love and passion.

Did you identify with the role of Frikkie – as a girl’s best friend, who’s also secretly in love with her?

Yes definitely, I have been in that exact same position before – I understood the emotions and reactions of Frikkie and could relate to it 100%.

Having worked with some of South Africa’s top actors on stage, would you say the scope of work for local actors has increased during the past few years?

I think it has increased, but I also think it is because the entertainment industry got much more attention the last couple of years which increased the scope for local actors. The films and series, even stage plays overseas coming to South Africa also made people aware of our locations and talent, opening up opportunities for more actors and everyone part of the process.

Is this a film you would take your mom, girlfriend or group of friends to watch?

This is a film I would take as many people as I can to go watch it. Mom, Dad, Girlfriend, Brother, Sister, Friends even my Grandparents would enjoy this one. The rugby players will also be enjoying this one!
