Sideways slides and big laughs with Clarkson, Hammond and May

The trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May Live sets Joburg ablaze.

The Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg reverberated over the weekend in a cacophony of ‘diesel-scented entertainment’ with the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May live, bringing their much-loved antics to fans in South Africa.

Thousands of admirers from across the province flocked to Ticketpro Dome for a glimpse at the infamous trio. No longer known as Top Gear Live – but as Clarkson, Hammond and May Live, the three put on a spectacular show, taking the winning formula of the former TV show to new extremes.

“We always love playing in Johannesburg. This is where we kicked off our very first world tour nine years ago,” said Clarkson to loud cheers from the crowd.

With fire dancers blazing sparks into the sky as a Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ drifted around them, an expo of the most exquisite Lamborghinis ever made, motorcycle stunts and a section dubbed ‘automotive pornography’, provided a sneak peak of what the trio’s future TV project might be like.

As with the now defunct Top Gear TV show no one was safe from the trio’s sharp-witted, non-politically correct humour, not even Jacob Zuma.

“We wanted president Zuma to join us today, but he could not come because he was in his firepool,” said Clarkson to the delight of the crowd.

The show also featured an expo outside the dome, with some of the most prominent motoring manufacturers in the world, including Ford, Kia, Renault and exhaust manufacturer Akrapovi?, showing off some of their best wares. Local Chipbox also showcased their brand new advanced driving simulator.

Clarkson, Hammond and May Live will host their next show in Norway from 19 to 21 June.
