Mobile drama series set to take Pretorians by storm

A new drama series on Tshwane's free Wifi-TV launched this week.

Residents of Tshwane can enjoy a local drama series on WiFi-TV.

The new show can be accessed through the city’s free WiFi-TV on the Inside Mams channel.

The series, titled Redemption, is about Tshepo (played by Tshepiso Poopedi), a young man who finds it difficult to deal with the recent death of his mother.

He later keeps the wrong company and finds himself a drug addict.

Tshepiso said his character changes completely throughout the drama.

“As you saw from the first two episodes, Tshepo hardly says a word, but moving forward he becomes a victim of peer pressure where he has to make life changing decisions,” he said.

He said it was a pleasure working on the series because the show tells the story of what is currently happening in Tshwane.

“We all know life can be hard at times, but using drugs will not make life easier. The best way to deal with hard times is to get a new hobby, something that will move your mind away from negative things.”

Tselane Mashilo plays Palesa, Tshepo’s supportive girlfriend.

“Palesa is one of those I-know-what-I-want kind of girls. She does not care about things of the world, but rather is focussed on accomplishing her goals and finishing varsity,” she said.

Palesa’s loyalty to Tshepo is tested during his time of need.

“Throughout the drama, one is taken on a journey of this young lady from just being Tshepo’s girlfriend to actually caring more about him than she thought she did.”

“We get to see how she becomes stronger for his sake and being a pillar of strength to him.”

The show’s producer Busisiwe Khanyile said Nyaope affects a lot of young men in Tshwane.

“We wanted to show the effects this has on the community,” she said.

The show was shot on various locations in Mamelodi and generally runs between six to eight minutes per episode.

“Episodes are uploaded daily, but viewers can catch up and watch all the episodes if they missed any of them.”
