Harvest Festival a must for all

May will start with a must on this year’s social calendar when the five-star Leriba Hotel and Spa brings the pride of the Cape winelands to the banks of the Hennops River in the form of a Harvest Festival, complete with wine stomping and delicious food.

The annual Harvest Festival, that brings the cream of the Cape winelands to Centurion in May this year to one of the city’s most sought after venues on the banks of Hennops River, is already proving to be a huge success.

The Harvest Festival, hosted by the five-star Leriba Hotel and Spa, takes place from 1 to 3 May this year and guarantees three days of exquisite wine and food and also interactive demonstrations by top chefs and popular television personality Johan Badenhorst of Voetspore fame.

A brand new feature introduced to the event this year is a Grape Stomping Day held on 30 April – the day before the start of the wine festival – but much to the disappointment of many, is already sold out. This prelude to the wine festival is ideal for companies, corporates and groups of friends and will give a whole new meaning to team building and a fun, creative day with colleagues or friends.

During the sold out event, L’Avenir Wine Estate from Stellenbosch will assist wine stompers to create their own wine from grape to bottle and those joining in the experience, will be required to design their own wine bottle label. The stomped grapes made by the group will then be taken to Stellenbosch where it will be bottled. Each person would then receive a bottle of wine with the custom-made label about four to five months later.

The actual Harvest Festival @ Centurion Leriba Hotel and Spa will see dozens of the top wine farms in the country showcase their prime products to the public and will also make their wines available for sale directly to the public during the three days of festivities. Delectable food, which made Leriba the eatery of choice in Centurion, will tempt the palates of visitors throughout the day.

“We expect about 4 000 people to join us at the Harvest Festival per day and will ensure that the experience is an unforgettable one,” said Leriba owner Peet du Preez.

The Harvest Festival, where the wine showcased will be available for tasting (or maybe a bit more) will be supporting the Rhino Project of SA National Parks and Cansa, and Tom Tom Africa will demonstrate their latest GPS product range for the adventurous.

The interactive cooking and food preparation demonstrations will be presented by the South African Chiefs Association, Prue Leith Chefs Academy, the Capital Hotel School and the adventure-loving Johan Badenhorst of the television programme Voetspore.

Ample parking will be available adjacent to Leriba Hotel for those who want to drive to the event, but a complimentary shuttle service will be supplied to and from the Centurion Gautrain station for those who prefer not to use their own transport.

Festival times will be as follows: Friday 1 May and Saturday 2 May from 09h00 to 17h00 and on Sunday 3 May from 09h00 to 16h00.

Harvest Festival tickets are available at Computicket at R130 per person and includes a wine glass. Pensioners and children will pay R90 per person.
