Charlize Theron teaches fans a bit of Afrikaans

Hollywood actress Charlize Theron is teaching her home language on Facebook to fans all over the world.

Homegrown Hollywood actress Charlize Theron appears to have made it her mission to teach something of her mother tongue Afrikaans to her millions of fans all over the world.

The Oscar-winning actress this week posted a picture card with the word “blessed” and its Afrikaans translation “geseënde” on her Facebook page.

Over 20 000 fans including thousands of South Africans liked the picture and many thanked her for teaching a bit of Afrikaans to the rest of the world.

This was the third card in a series of lessons called #LearnAfrikaanswithCharlize that Theron had posted since August last year.

In October, she posted, “Lag Hardop. Laugh Out Loud” and in August she started with “Gelukkige Vrydag! Happy Friday!”

In 2013, Theron told Piers Morgan on CNN that she rarely spoke Afrikaans as it was difficult to do so when no one was talking back.

In 2008, Charlize spoke perfect Afrikaans to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and said that she still spoke in her mother tongue with her mother as she was raised with the language.
