Fans rub shoulders with film stars

Between Friends’ cast members paid a surprise visit to the Ster-Kineko Sterland Mall in Arcadia on Saturday.

Cast members of the newly released locally produced film, Between Friends, received a warm welcome from the audience when paying a surprise visit at Ster-Kinekor Sterland Mall in Arcadia on Saturday.

The three cast members – Dumsani Mbebe, who is cast as Winston, Amanda du Pont, who plays Nisha, and Siyabonga Radebe, who plays Njabulo – surprised their local fans, signed autographs and posed for photographs with them, making their day special, before the screening of Between Friends.

Mbebe said he felt good about the warm reception they received.

“It is a good sign that they are doing something right in the local film industry,” he said.

One of the fans, Pearl Molopyane, said she was excited to see the cast members.

“I never thought that they would be here. I am happy,” Molopyane said. She said she was looking forward to watch the movie.

The film, shot in 19 days, was released at the mall on 15 August.

It is about a group of university friends’ reunion at an upmarket game lodge in KwaZulu-Natal, after living separate lives for seven years.

Buried secrets among these old friends are eventually exposed, causing tensions in their current relationships.

Directed by Zuko Nodada, the film features a cast of familiar local faces such as Thapelo Mokoena who plays Nkanyiso, a successful entrepreneur who is reluctantly attending the reunion with his trophy girlfriend, Nisha.

Other cast members include Lihle Dhlomo, Siyabonga Thwala, Morne du Toit and Mandisa Nduna.
