Watershed has enthralled fans for years and as a band they are a force be reckoned with. They are performing tonight at Silver Star Casino and Rekord caught up with the lead singer Craig Hinds, to hear about the band’s future plans.
How have you guys been keeping yourself busy?
We will be recording our 5th studio album in August with Mark Beling producing and we will be releasing the album in October. We have also just done a music video for our first single off the forthcoming album for the track Don’t give up.
What is your favourite town in South Africa?
We love going to Plett. Always good times and great fans. We will be touring there again in December.
Do you prefer performing live or spending time in the studio?
I prefer a bit of both. Live performances are great because of the thrill of performing to crowds. Every performance is a unique event, never to be done again. Spending time in the studio also has its good side. I love the intensity of the studio and the creativity there.
Can you still remember the first song you wrote and where you were when it first played on radio?
The first song I wrote never made it to the radio thank goodness! I remember writing Shine on me and then hearing it for the first time on radio.. Epic! It entered the tTp 40 charts at number 39. I was with mates when we heard it, so we cracked open a bottle.
What do you like best about Pretoria?
I love the student vibe and the modern centres around Pretoria
How do you get inspired to write songs?
People inspire me. I’m always getting inspiration from people.
Do you guys have a favourite song (of your own) and why?
We all love Close My Eyes which features on the third album
How do you get energised before each show? Especially when you are on the road?
Each show is different – different energy, different people. We take each show at a time. The unknown energises us. We need to get it right every time!
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Not really. We run through each show before we go on stage and talk through each song. Then have a cold beer and then play.
