Nature’s secrets and human evils in art

A local art exhibit reveals the hidden beauty in nature and reflects on the corruptibility of human nature.

Artists Angela Banks and At Smit pose at the exhibition of their pieces that kicked off on Friday at the Association of Arts Pretoria in Nieuw Muckleneuk.

Smit’s exhibit, ‘Revealing the Inner Beauty of Wood’, is a demonstration of turned wood. To him, woodturning reveals the inner beauty of wood that nature hides within trees. Banks’ exhibit ‘Posing on Pedestals’ displays human or animal portraits depicting a mild humour, some crooked human behaviour and often false and dubious aspirations, suggesting that professional titles and positions in society are often used and abused as a means of intimidation and for personal, political and social gain.

Both these exhibits will be on display until 13 December.
