South African Rotax Max Challenge heats up at Formula K

Thrilling racing and multiple winners shook up the championship chase across all classes. We take a closer look.

A sensational day of South African National Championship Rotax Max Challenge karting recently unfolded at Formula K in Benoni, South Africa. Packed with close racing, multiple heat winners and dramatic moments, the event significantly tightened the championship chase across all classes. These results will also determine the South African team competing in the prestigious Rotax Max Grand Finals in Italy this October.

DD2 Gearbox

Multiple champion Bradley Liebenberg took the overall win, despite heat 2 winner Sebastian Boyd and consistent performer Nicolaos Vostanis challenging for the top spot.

Championship leader Jason Coetzee faced setbacks, with exclusion from a race due to underweight regulations. This opens the title chase wide open.

Matthew Wadeley capitalised on Coetzee’s misfortune, edging out Ethan Stier, Karabo Malemela and others in a dramatic day.

DD2 Masters

The battle for the title intensified with multiple heat winners. Justin Rogers emerged victorious on a countback after tying Christian Bouché on points.

Bjorn Roos edged out Jonathan Pieterse by a single point for third place.

Former leaders Jared Jordan and Michael Jordan also saw their positions challenged, further intensifying the title race.

Senior Max

Muhammad Wally clinched a close-fought win in Senior Max with two heat victories. Charl Visser wasn’t far behind, closing the gap on current leader Jonno Wilson.

Brandon van der Walt, Mauro da Luz and others enjoyed a thrilling race, witnessing the leaders battle it out.

Junior Max (U15)

Triple heat winners emerged in the U15 Junior Max class. William Marshall edged out Gianna Pascoal, Georgia Lenaerts and Kegan Martin, tightening the title race heading into the final.

Amani Kinyua secured fifth, followed by Luke Hill and others.

Mini Max (U13)

Twenty drivers from various regions competed in the Mini Max class, delivering diverse winners across the heats.

Durelle Goodman emerged victorious, despite challenges from Ronaldo Koen and Brodi Dowling.

Championship leader Tshepang Shisinwana bounced back from a difficult race to win the final, further adding excitement to the title chase.

Micro Max (U11)

Luhan de Wet dominated the Micro Max class with two wins, pushing championship contenders Matthew Shuttleworth and Liam Wharton down the order.

Luke du Toit and Adriaan Steyn tied for fifth, followed by a pack of talented young drivers.

Bambino

Caleb Lingeveldt recovered well after a slow start, winning the final two races and taking the overall win.

Championship leader Radhi Harris still holds the lead, but Alonzo de Oliveira, Aston Verheul and Caleb Lingeveldt are hot on his heels.

Thrilling conclusion awaits

This action-packed day at Formula K has set the stage for a dramatic finale at the Rotax Max National Finals at Zwartkops on August 31.

Every class promises an intense battle for the championship title.
