Available on select 4×2 and 4×4 double-cab derivatives employing the Japanese automaker’s familiar 150kW/500Nm 2.8-litre turbo charged oil-burner, the 48V setup provides power and torque boosts of 12kW and 65Nm. The mild-hybrid four-cylinder unit is exclusively coupled with a six-speed self-shifter. Toyota claims these models sip, on average, 10% less diesel than their non-mild-hybrid 2.8-litre siblings.

“The addition of 48V for a small price premium, along with other valuable specification and styling improvements, ensures that the Hilux is more desirable than ever,” said Glenn Compton, the vice president of marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors.
