Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N electric hyper hatch claimed the prestigious Car of the Year title at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards.
The IONIQ 5 N, unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, integrates the Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with N’s motorsport expertise, redefining electric driving pleasure. With a focus on delivering maximum enjoyment and excitement, the IONIQ 5 N impressed TopGear’s judges, securing the top spot for the past 12 months.
Paul Horrell, Top Gear writer and Car of the Year Juror, praised Hyundai’s engineers for exceeding expectations, describing the IONIQ 5 N as “huge fun” and a game-changer for electric cars.
Till Wartenberg, vice president and head of N Brand and Motorsport at Hyundai Motor Company expressed gratitude for the honour and emphasised Hyundai N’s commitment to delivering high performance to all.
Key technical advances of the IONIQ 5 N include a powerful drivetrain, enhanced battery cooling, and braking performance. The electric motors reach up to 21 000rpm providing up to 478kW with the N Grin Boost feature engaged. Accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 260km/h, the IONIQ 5 N offers an exhilarating driving experience.
The car’s array of upgrades, such as electronically controlled suspension and N pedal, contributes to an exceptional performance EV. Features like N e-shift and N Active Sound+ enhance emotional engagement, simulating a dual-clutch transmission and providing a captivating EV soundtrack.
TopGear.com’s recognition adds to Hyundai’s impressive accolades, with the IONIQ 6 previously earning World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year in April.
