South Africa excels at 2023 Rotax Max Olympics of Karting

Team South Africa showcased remarkable performances at the 2023 Rotax Max Olympics of Karting Grand Finals held at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit recently. Read more about these triumphs here.

Four drivers, Reagile Mailula, Sebastian Boyd, Kyle Lawrence and Rafael da Silva, stood out in the finals of the Rotax Max held at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit on December 9.

The competition, the closest in 23 years of the Rotax Max Grand Finals, witnessed intense battles, with teammates Jamie Smith, Kian Grottis, KC Ensor-Smith, Erich Heystek, Kent Swartz, Wian Boshoff and Caleb Odendaal exiting after Friday’s prefinals.

Rookie sensation Reagile showcased exceptional resilience and skill, climbing 10 places in the prefinal and finishing 11th overall in the U13 Mini Max category. Sebastian faced challenges, but qualified 21st for the Grand Final, finishing 18th after overcoming some setbacks. Kyle Lawrence delivered a powerful drive, gaining 17 places to secure a top 10 finish in the over-32 DD2 Masters Final. The youngest member, Rafael, faced a tough week, but demonstrated determination, securing 31st place in the U11 Micro Max Grand Final.

While some team members faced eliminations, the overall performance of Team South Africa was commendable. The 2023 Grand Finals in Bahrain provided a platform for intense competition, innovation – including racing under lights for the first time – and camaraderie in the South African Rotax Max karting community.

Rotax MAX SA boss Ed Murray acknowledged the incredible efforts from every participant and competitor, concluding in an outstanding year in South African Rotax Max karting.
