The special edition model was exclusively sold to the German market, not giving other markets a chance to process the set price. The sheer velocity with which these cars were snapped up is a testament to the unwavering appeal of the Golf R brand as well as the undeniable allure of limited edition vehicles.
With a staggering price converted to R1.6m, many initially scoffed at the notion of a Volkswagen Golf reaching such figures. It seemed ludicrous, beyond reason even, to associate such a price tag with a vehicle bearing the Volkswagen emblem and moniker that had humble origins as an affordable commuter.
