Limpopo police have intensified a manhunt following the discovery of a dismantled body believed to be that of 18-year-old Anna Makhukhu Ramollo, who was reported missing with her brother from Rakgoatha Village outside Moletlane.

Polokwane Review reports that Anna, who was wheelchair-bound due to a disability, disappeared with her brother, Nakedi Ramollo (24), from their home in Mathibela Extension 73 on May 1.

According to police, the siblings’ 58-year-old mother was at home with them when Nakedi allegedly asked for money to buy snacks. When the mother returned with the money, both siblings were gone.

Witnesses reportedly saw Nakedi pushing Anna in her wheelchair towards Bergnek village.

Search operation launched

Police launched a search operation involving community members, the Polokwane Mounted Search and Rescue Unit and the Polokwane K9 Unit, but no trace of the siblings was initially found.

Police said the body believed to be Anna’s was discovered yesterday (May 7) at about 19:30 in a bush along the R519 between Zebediela and Polokwane.

The discovery was reportedly made after a local farmer alerted police following information from a shepherd who noticed a foul smell while searching for cattle.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found a shallow grave covered with freshly cut tree branches. Further investigation led to the recovery of a decomposed and dismantled female body with severe injuries.

The body has since been transported to the Forensic Pathology Services for a post-mortem examination and formal identification.

Manhunt underway

Police have opened a murder case at Zebediela SAPS, while investigations into the siblings’ disappearance continue at Moletlane SAPS.

Authorities are still searching for Nakedi, who police believe may be linked to the incident.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the killing and directed investigators to mobilise resources to trace those responsible.

“This horrific act is deeply disturbing and heartless. The murder of a vulnerable, wheelchair-bound young woman is shocking and unacceptable,” said Hadebe.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about Nakedi’s whereabouts or the incident to contact investigating officer Sergeant Rodney Mothiba on 076 098 6633, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS app anonymously.

Investigations are continuing.
