Watch: Secunda-born soprano serenades with ‘best ever’ rendition of ‘Nessun Dorma’

Renowned judge Simon Cowell led the praise of Innocent Masuku’s performance in the grand finale of 'Britain’s Got Talent'.

The curtains have been drawn on another season of Britain’s Got Talent, and despite not walking away with the grand prize, Secunda-born Nkululeko Innocent Masuku’s voice hit all the right notes during the competition.

He first wowed judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Simon Cowell in his April audition. Holden said at the time: “Hands down, in the 17 years we’ve been doing Britain’s Got Talent, you are by far the best opera singer we’ve ever had.”

Masuku, who now lives in London, got even more praise when he performed a stunning rendition of Hans Zimmer’s Now We Are Free.

However, it was his performance during the grand finale of the competition that will ring long in the ears of judges, the audience and viewers across the world.

The small in stature Masuku took on the renowned opera song of Luciano Pavarotti, Nessun Dorma and, in the words of Cowell: “We have had a lot of people sing it on the show… I don’t think anyone’s sung it as good as you just did.”
