Watch: KZN woman dies after hit-and-run
A woman who was left with severe injuries after being run over outside a petrol station has died.
An elderly woman from Uitsig, near St Winifreds in Kingsburgh, KZN, died on Friday as a result of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run that happened on July 20 outside a filling station near her home.
South Coast Sun reports that Jane Knight was struck by a sedan that had just exited the filling station.
Bystanders rushed to her aid and together lifted the vehicle to pull her out from underneath.
She sustained a broken rib and burn injuries from the vehicle’s hot engine. The driver reportedly fled the scene once she was freed.
Knight was taken to G.J. Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh but was discharged in less than 24 hours.
She died at her home 11 days later.
A case has been opened at the Amanzimtoti Police Station.
No arrests had been made at the time of publishing.
