Watch: Fire at Schoemansdal Police Station

Investigations are underway after a fire broke out at a police station in Mpumalanga.

Two containers, which were used as offices at the Schoemansdal Police Station, caught fire at around 12:00 yesterday, reports the Lowvelder.

Police officers on duty noticed the fire and reported the incident.

Emergency services responded promptly and managed to contain the blaze, preventing further damage to the facility.

No injuries were reported.

Assessments will be conducted to determine the extent of the damage and the public will be informed as more details become available.

SAPS said the service remains committed to maintaining operational capacity and will see to it that all necessary measures are undertaken to ensure that there is no hampering of operations during this time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
