Watch: Damaged taxi crashes into car in Pretoria

Is this the definition of 'critical but stable'? A viral video shows a heavily damaged taxi still on the move before crashing into a car.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has confirmed that a viral video showing a badly damaged taxi crashing into a car was recorded in Arcadia, Pretoria.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba told Caxton Network News that while the location has been confirmed, the department cannot verify any injuries.

It has been reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday in Wessels Street, with the taxi crashing into the vehicle seen in the video shortly after being involved in another crash.

A Facebook post by News South Africa states that several passengers inside the taxi sustained injuries. However, this information has not yet been independently verified.

“The driver remained entrapped in the vehicle following the crash. A truck that was in the vicinity was not damaged, though it did spill oil on the road as it had been transporting bulk oil. Emergency services were called to the scene to assist the injured and clear the spillage,” the post adds.

At the time of publishing, Mahamba said he was still looking into the incident and could not yet confirm whether the driver had been arrested or whether the vehicle had been impounded. SAPS were also contacted for comment, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
