Watch: Citro-Soda recalled over contamination risk
Check if you are affected by the recall of a popular effervescent product made by Adcock Ingram in Johannesburg.
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra), led by CEO Boitumelo Semete Makokotlela, has announced a recall of certain batches of Citro-Soda Regular, reports The Witness.
The recall follows a potential contamination risk at the Adcock Ingram Clayville manufacturing facility in Johannesburg.
The recall affects only the following batches produced at the Clayville facility, as outlined in the official notice and on the Sahpra website:
- Product: Citro-Soda Regular (60g, 120g, and 4g x 30 sachets).
- Batch numbers: All batches starting with the letter ‘C’.
- Expiry dates: Products with expiry dates on or before November 2027.
Sahpra briefed the media at Tshedimosetso House on Tuesday, outlining the reasons for the recall, the regulatory decision, and providing guidance to healthcare professionals and the public.
“We would like to give the public assurance that we have gone into the facility, we have evaluated their manufacturing practices, and that is what has led us to this decision,” said Makokotlela.
Consumers and healthcare providers are urged to check the affected batches and follow Sahpra’s guidance regarding their safe return or disposal.
