Videos: 6 murder suspects killed in shoot-out with Durban police

Police pounced on a rented holiday apartment, and killed the suspects, while the individual who booked the room is being sought.

Six suspects were fatally shot during a police raid on a hotel room in Durban’s Point area in the early hours of this morning. The suspects, believed to be involved in a string of murders and extortion cases, opened fire when SAPS members attempted to apprehend them, leading to a deadly shoot-out.

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspects were being traced in connection with the murder of four men on Siyaphambili Road in Tshelimnyama, Mariannhill, on Sunday night. The victims were reportedly drinking on the side of the road when the suspects, armed with pistols and a rifle, ordered them to lie down before executing them.

“Police followed information that led them to a rented holiday apartment on South Beach Avenue in the Point area,” says Netshiunda. “Upon announcing their presence, the suspects opened fire, and all six were fatally wounded. No police officers were injured during the shoot-out.”

Netshiunda adds that the suspects were also linked to a triple murder near a tuckshop in Mpumalanga Township, Hammersdale, on Friday afternoon, as well as a robbery at a shop in the same building where they were found. The police recovered three firearms from the apartment and suspect the group was involved in the illicit drug trade.

Police are now pursuing the individual who booked the room for the suspects.
